Blackhawk Hardware is Growing

Blackhawk Hardware, a locally owned and managed ACE hardware store, announces plans to add on to their current location in Park Road Shopping Center by opening the existing walk-out basement as part of the new sales floor. Construction begins this fall with the anticipated completion of the 12,000 square-foot expansion by March 2020. Construction plans include renovating the basement (currently used for mostly storage), restructuring the main level, creating a woodshop viewing area and adding a few new creative store features.

“Charlotte’s population influx and development pushes businesses to also adapt, and we think our customers will be equally, if not more, pleased with the results of our expansion as we are,” said Andy Wilkerson, co-owner at Blackhawk. “This project will allow us to expand further within our existing departments to offer customers more products to choose from and more area to shop around in.”

Blackhawk will be restructuring the departments on the main level, allowing the housewares, grilling, seasonal, pet, paint and cabinet hardware departments to expand their offerings. The tool, lawn & garden, large storage, automotive, electrical, plumbing & hardware departments will be moved to the basement of the store. A new entrance to the lower level will be made available through the Backlot access in Park Road Shopping Center. Blackhawk will also be adding three checkout counters downstairs to allow easy in and out access for customers.

A grill destination, Blackhawk Hardware is the largest Big Green Egg dealer.

“Blackhawk has grown so much in the past 40 plus years,” said Craig Anderson, general manager at Blackhawk. “This project will expand more than just our sales floor; we are hoping to grow our staff, promote team members internally and provide customers with even more things they are looking for…or didn’t know they needed.”

In addition to the practical expansion plans to allow for more product offerings, Blackhawk will also be having a little fun with the store transformation. In addition to the elevator that will be installed in the middle of the store, a red spiral slide will be built for customers of all ages to travel from the main floor to the basement level. Blackhawk will also be building a remote-controlled model train set to run around the basement ceiling, bringing a little joy and excitement to their guests’ shopping experience.
